I am getting no end of "Unresponsive Script" warnings on thefreshloaf.com using Mozilla Firefox. They lock up the whole browser.
I too was having that problem, to the point where I had to shut down and couldn't browse the site. :( I installed AdBlock Plus and now have no trouble at all. And my fan doesn't kick into high gear every time I open the site! It seems the video ads were the problem.
This presents a dilemma for Floyd. If people start blocking the ads on this site, I don't believe he gets paid because impressions aren't being made. I've had web sites remind me that I'm using an ad blocker, that their web site depends on ad revenue and they don't get paid if their ads are being blocked.
...when your browser locks up, either, or when people stop visiting a site because the ads are so annoying.
Most advert blockers have a setting which allows unobtrusive ads through.
Mozilla publishes a very clear explanation regarding unresponsive scripts. Usually you have a lot more control than you are aware of. The link is below.
Happy New Year All!
Very often the browser has already locked up due to the misbehaving script, and the "Stop Script" button doesn't work.
Agreed that the video ads are the worst offenders, video ads that blast loud music at you unexpectedly.
Amongst the worst of offences a site can commit. Especially when you're enjoying some music of your own or there's someone asleep in the same, or a neighbouring, room and you're trying not to to disturb them.
I suggest you take the time to read the information provided by Mozilla (Firefox) at the link I posted. You will likely find the problem is yours - not the site's - or that you can do something about it.
Yes, or when you're trying to sneak a peek at TFL at work.
We're back to the previously-mentioned dilemma. People start blocking adware and Floyd doesn't get paid for the blocked ads because they aren't seen. Good for the user but bad for Floyd.
As others have observed, the video ads are the worst because the player made by a certain large software company is notoriously unstable, IMO.
I'm using IE11 and windows 10 on a Fios network and TFL is almost the ONLY site I have problems with. IF it loads, it takes about 45 sec for just the home page to load and if I don't allow it to fully load, it locks up.
Is there a middle road so that Floyd gets the benefits he deserves and visiting is reasonably accessible for the members?
This is my absolute favorite site and it has evolved (technically) over the years. I hope it can work for all.
...set to allow unobtrusive ads, which is the default for some of them, including AdBlock Plus. That way Floyd gets the benefit, as long as the ads are unobtrusive, and the annoying ones are blocked.
NoScript is also worth looking at as it can block particular providers of adverts and other services. It's especially useful if you use sites like Facebook and don't like them tracking you across the 'Net.
Thanks! Back to enjoying the site!
